Common Snake Bite – When to Take It Seriously

 

A snake bite should always be treated as a medical emergency, even if symptoms seem mild at first.

Seek Immediate Medical Attention If:

🚨 Severe Symptoms

• Difficulty breathing
• Swelling of the face, tongue, or throat
• Severe pain at the bite site
• Rapidly increasing swelling around the bite

🚨 Signs of Venom Poisoning

• Bleeding from gums, nose, or wound
• Blood in urine or stools
• Blurred vision or drooping eyelids
• Difficulty speaking or swallowing
• Muscle weakness or paralysis

🚨 General Danger Signs

• Dizziness or fainting
• Rapid heartbeat
• Excessive sweating
• Persistent vomiting
• Loss of consciousness

🚨 Bite from an Unknown Snake

• If you cannot identify the snake, seek emergency care immediately.
• Symptoms may be delayed but can become life-threatening.

First Aid – What To Do

✅ Keep the patient calm and still.
✅ Remove rings, watches, or tight clothing.
✅ Keep the bitten limb immobilized.
✅ Transport the patient to the nearest hospital immediately.

What NOT To Do

❌ Do not cut the wound.
❌ Do not suck out the venom.
❌ Do not apply ice.
❌ Do not use a tight tourniquet.
❌ Do not give alcohol or herbal remedies.
