Common ECG Findings – When to Take Them Seriously

An ECG (Electrocardiogram) records the heart's electrical activity. Some ECG changes are harmless, while others require urgent medical attention.

Seek Immediate Medical Care If ECG Shows:

🔴 Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction)

  • ST-segment elevation (STEMI)
  • New left bundle branch block with symptoms
  • Chest pain, sweating, breathlessness

🔴 Dangerous Heart Rhythm Disorders

  • Ventricular Tachycardia (VT)
  • Ventricular Fibrillation (VF)
  • Sustained rapid heartbeat with dizziness or fainting

🔴 Complete Heart Block

  • Very slow heart rate
  • Dizziness, fainting, weakness

🔴 Atrial Fibrillation with Fast Heart Rate

  • Palpitations
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest discomfort

🔴 Severe Bradycardia (Very Slow Heart Rate)

  • Heart rate below 40 bpm
  • Fainting or near-fainting episodes

🔴 Long QT Syndrome

  • Risk of sudden dangerous arrhythmias
  • Unexplained fainting

Consult a Doctor Soon If ECG Shows:

🟠 Frequent Premature Beats (PACs/PVCs)

  • Recurrent palpitations
  • Associated dizziness

🟠 Atrial Flutter

  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat

🟠 Bundle Branch Block

  • Especially if new or associated with symptoms

🟠 Signs of Heart Enlargement

  • May indicate high blood pressure or valve disease

🟠 Evidence of Previous Heart Attack

  • Even without current symptoms

Warning Symptoms That Need Urgent Evaluation

✅ Chest pain or pressure
✅ Shortness of breath
✅ Fainting or blackouts
✅ Severe dizziness
✅ Sudden palpitations
✅ Excessive sweating with chest discomfort
✅ Unexplained weakness

Remember

A normal ECG does not always rule out heart disease. If symptoms such as chest pain, breathlessness, or fainting are present, medical evaluation is still necessary.
