ECG (Electrocardiogram)
An ECG records the electrical activity of the heart and helps identify rhythm and heart-related problems.
Common ECG Findings
✅ Normal Sinus Rhythm – Normal heartbeat pattern.
⚠️ Fast Heart Rate (Tachycardia)
- Heart rate above 100 beats/minute.
- May occur due to fever, anxiety, dehydration, or heart disease.
⚠️ Slow Heart Rate (Bradycardia)
- Heart rate below 60 beats/minute.
- Can be normal in athletes but may indicate conduction problems.
⚠️ Irregular Heart Rhythm (Arrhythmia)
- Feeling of skipped beats, fluttering, or palpitations.
- May require medical evaluation.
⚠️ Signs of Reduced Blood Flow to the Heart
- May suggest coronary artery disease or heart attack.
- Immediate medical attention is needed if associated with chest pain.
⚠️ Heart Conduction Blocks
- Electrical signals travel abnormally through the heart.
- Some cases require monitoring or pacemaker treatment.
ECHO (Echocardiogram)
An ECHO uses ultrasound to create images of the heart's structure and function.
Common ECHO Findings
✅ Normal Heart Function
- Heart pumps blood effectively.
⚠️ Reduced Ejection Fraction (Weak Pumping)
- Heart muscle pumps less efficiently.
- Can indicate heart failure.
⚠️ Enlarged Heart Chambers
- May result from long-term high blood pressure or valve disease.
⚠️ Valve Problems
- Leaking valves (Regurgitation)
- Narrowed valves (Stenosis)
- May cause breathlessness, fatigue, or swelling.
⚠️ Thickened Heart Muscle
- Commonly associated with uncontrolled hypertension.
⚠️ Fluid Around the Heart
- May require urgent evaluation depending on severity.
When to Take ECG or ECHO Findings Seriously
Seek medical attention immediately if ECG or ECHO abnormalities are associated with:
- Chest pain
- Severe shortness of breath
- Fainting or loss of consciousness
- Sudden palpitations
- Unexplained dizziness
- Swelling of legs
- Symptoms suggestive of a heart attack or stroke
Health Message
Early detection saves lives. Regular ECG and ECHO evaluations can help identify heart problems before serious complications develop.
