Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral infection that often causes high fever, severe body pain, headache, joint pain, and rash. Most people recover with rest and proper hydration, but some cases can become severe and life-threatening.
Common Symptoms of Dengue

- Severe headache
- Pain behind the eyes
- Muscle and joint pain ("breakbone fever")
- Nausea and vomiting
- Skin rash
- Fatigue and weakness
- Mild bleeding from gums or nose
Warning Signs – Seek Medical Attention Immediately

⚠️ Bleeding from gums, nose, urine, or stool
⚠️ Vomiting blood or black-colored stools

⚠️ Cold, clammy skin
⚠️ Reduced urine output
⚠️ Sudden drop in fever followed by worsening condition

High-Risk Groups
Extra caution is needed for:
- Children under 5 years
- Elderly adults
- Pregnant women
- People with diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, or weakened immunity
Home Care Tips
✅ Drink plenty of water, ORS, coconut water, and clear fluids
✅ Get adequate rest
✅ Monitor temperature and hydration
✅ Use paracetamol for fever (only as advised)
❌ Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac, and other NSAIDs unless prescribed, as they may increase bleeding risk.
Emergency Signs
Go to the nearest emergency department immediately if:
- Severe bleeding occurs
- Breathing becomes difficult
- The patient becomes unconscious or confused
- There are signs of shock (cold extremities, weak pulse, low blood pressure)
Early diagnosis, hydration, and monitoring can prevent severe dengue complications. If fever lasts more than 2–3 days or dengue is suspected, consult a healthcare professional and consider blood testing as advised
